On October 6 of 1999, Mr Juan T. Imperial Jr, a student of Ross Guzman, sent Ms Peggy McCall, the Director of Quality Assurance of PADI, a letter that would forever change his life.

Here are some highlights from his letter:

"I spend too much time at work now dreaming of when I'll be able to go underwater again..."

"I can't even order sharks' fin soup anymore because I now know that sharks are quickly becoming endangered -- and to think that sharks' fin soup used to be one of my favorite dishes."

"Mr. Guzman's gotten me so much into the whole experience of diving that I've already signed up for an advanced open water course (another course with Mr. Guzman), and am looking forward to someday reaching the divemaster level."

Mr. Brad Smith, the Manager of Training and Quality in PADI, sent a reply:

"Your professional efforts help to keep PADI at the forefront of diver education.  We would like to extend our appreciation for the find job you are doing representing PADI.
